  • Not evaluated for gabion fill. Gabion specifications set a stone size against the basket aperture and this material has not been tested against any of them.
  • Not evaluated for use in or near fire. Whether the material spalls when heated wet is unmeasured, so it must not be used in fire pits or fire features.

About Black Feature Stone

Can I use this for gabion baskets?

Not on a specification yet. Gabion fill is sized against the basket aperture, and this stone has not been tested against any gabion standard. If you want to evaluate it, take a sample and check it against the aperture and fill requirements you work to.

Will it hold its colour?

The black-to-grey colour is the mineral itself rather than a coating or dye, so it cannot wear off the surface. Long-term weathering and any staining behaviour on adjacent concrete have not been tested.

Is it heavy?

The parent material has a specific gravity of 2.7 to 2.9, which is in the same range as common quarried stone. Unit weight for this specific size band has not been measured.
